It’s that time of month again! The time we love so much here at NYCID, when we announce our newest team member of the month! It brings us great joy to be able to bestow this award each month to a team member who has gone above and beyond to help improve the lives of people in our community.

For February 2022 our Team Member of the Month is Shirley Gavidia, Mentor and Social Worker at Port Richmond High School! Shirley’s infectious smile has always made students and staff at Port Richmond feel at ease. She is enthusiastic and thoroughly enjoys the work of guiding youth to achieve their goals. Her fellow mentors look upon her with respect due to her knowledge and experience from years of being a mentor. Shirley exhibits the NYCID core value of collaboration by making sure each of her mentees receives the most insightful counseling possible. Although Shirley is leaving NYCID she will always remain part of the family for her immense contributions to the Port Richmond community.

Our team gathered virtually to present Shirley with her award. Director of Community Schools Tara Howard read the certificate and congratulated Shirley on her hard work and dedication throughout the past 4 years. She remarked that she was still in denial about Shirley leaving because it will definitely be a loss to the Port Richmond community. She wished Shirley the best in her new role at PS 10 and PS 16.  Senior Director of Community Development noted that one moment that stood out to him was when Shirley won at the summer raffle and jumped with joy and excitement and congratulated her for all her hard work. Shirley was so thankful and appreciative to receive these kind words from Candella and Howard.

We are so confident that Shirley will succeed in her new role and we wish her all the best! Congratulations Shirley, you deserve it!
