Divorce and separation can have a big impact on your child’s development and well-being. To help with the shift in the family, we offer the Parent Class: Assisting Children through Transition, or ACT. This class provides parents with skills and information to reduce conflict, strengthen parent-child relationships, and foster the children’s healthy development.
ACT is offered monthly by NYCID, in either one 6-hour or two 3-hour sessions, and is facilitated by professionals trained in one or more of: psychology, family therapy, social work, law and mediation. This is a New York State Parent Education and Awareness Program (PEAP) certified class. Participants will receive a Handbook for Parents and a Resource Guide that contains useful guidelines, informative articles, and referrals that are available to assist in finding help and support.
This class is open to all parents who are interested in learning how to manage family conflict, whether or not referred from court. All parents interested in taking this class must first register by calling our Parent ACT Intake Line at 917-831-6469. Upcoming class dates are:
