There was a special guest at PS 78 earlier this week! New York City Mayor Eric Adams Visited PS 78 to tour the food pantry and laundry facilities and find out more about the schools partnership with NYCID. Adams met with Principal Jodi Contento and NYCID Community School Director Andre Borders to talk about how we work with the school to improve attendance.

Borders said he “explained to [Mayor Adams] the importance of having  amenities such as the laundry center and food pantry. [He] articulated to him the value of them. [They] both agreed that these variables are essential in the all around academic achievement, as well as positive social development of our students.”

Adams agreed that a child with a full belly and clean clothes is more likely to succeed, and with that everyone wins.

It is great to be able to show off all that we have accomplished at PS 78 with the opening of the food bank and laundry machines. These services are vital to members of our community and make the school a hub. PS 78 is not only a place where children come to learn, but a place where people can access vital resources, and even adults can further their education with night classes. Even though we are receiving this recognition, that is not why we do what we do. We are here to improve the lives of everyone we come across and will continue to do so!
