Earlier this month, on May 14th; the Second Annual Cesar Sanchez Tribute Run was held. He was a runner; football, basketball, baseball, and soccer player; basketball coach; and friend. He also wanted to one day run the New York City Marathon. We all remember Cesar fondly.
Cesar was unfortunately taken from the world in 2014 by a gunshot outside the Berry Houses at the age of 20. Cesar worked with the Under the Lights basketball program at the Berry Houses; and was also a participant in the NYCID programs.
Over 200 runners came out to the FDR Boardwalk to honor his memory; and to stand up against gun violence. The event was held on Cesar’s birthday. He would be 22 this year.
Thank you to all who supported the event or participated in it. It is a great way to honor the memory of a great young man.
