At the end of August, our Young Adult Borough Center (YABC) students travelled around Staten Island to see exciting and interesting landmarks. The event was a way for students to build friendships and team spirit; as part of the week-long Work Readiness Boot Camp (WRBC). Students travelled in their groups from Tottenville High School, to the Conference House, Fort Wadsworth, the Alice Austen House, and the Staten Island Museum at Snug Harbor.
Students followed clues and utilized buses to head to the locations. They took selfies with the portrait of Ben Franklin at the Conference House, looked across the water at Manhattan from Fort Wadsworth, collected postcards from the Alice Austen House, and took pictures of the Mastodon at the Staten Island Museum.
The students learned something at each landmark, from the places themselves, as well as from Staten Island Assemblymen Mike Cusick and Matthew Titone; who each gave the students advice for life. Thank you to all who supported the event or participated in it.
