NYCID’s SONYC Service Learning class at SISCL is launching its The SLAP program which stands for Service Learning Art and Photography. Its a collaborative group of middle school students who all share a passion for making difference on Staten Island. The group is combined with students from the Service Learning, Art and Photography groups and together they formed The SLAP.
Our first Service Learning Project is working with Project Hospitality. The Slap will be servicing The Hospitality House. The Hospitality house is Staten Island’s one and only homeless family shelter so therefore we decided that we wanted to make the families of Hospitality House happy for the holidays by providing them with family photos with a winter wonderland theme. The SLAP is going to do it all when it comes to providing the service . Our photographers will take the pictures, our artists will be designing and creating the backdrops for the wonderland theme, and our service learning students will be assisting the children with art projects and serving food.
Our mission statement is to provide a memorable service to all those who are underserved in communities in need. As adolescents, we are learning at an early age the importance of supportive and inspirational services-especially to those who are homeless and at high-risk.
