One of our recent YABC graduates, Cesar Sanchez was killed outside of the Berry Homes. Taken at only age twenty, he was shot to death. Our hearts go out to his family and friends, for he was a truly spirited young man. Even at a young age, he inspired many of the youths he worked with while in the YABC program, and in the Under the Lights basketball league. This league helped youths of the Berry Homes come together in an organized way to play basketball, which Cesar loved to play. As his mother said in his eulogy, "He was actually a light that shone brighter than any of us knew in my family. He really touched the community in a meaningful and positive way. He loved his fellow man and he showed it through his actions." The co-founders of the Under the Lights league have started the Cesar Sanchez Fund in his honor.
