The Educational Video Center is a non-profit youth media organization dedicated to teaching documentary video as a means to develop artistic, critical literacy,and career skills of young people, while nurturing their idealism and commitment to social change.Over the years, our students have created award-winning documentaries on a range of issues from immigration to the environment, from bullying and youth depression to policing and the juvenile justice system.

Responsibilities

  • As an In-Person Youth Producer at Education Video Center, located in New York, NY, you will collaborate with a team of young filmmakers to produce a 10-20 minute documentary film focusing on a social issue over a 6-week period.
  • Your role will involve participating in all aspects of the documentary production process, including concept development, research, filming, conducting interviews, editing footage, producing graphics, creating music, and writing the script for the documentary.
  • Working closely with fellow Youth Producers, you will engage in creative discussions, problem-solving, and decision-making to bring the documentary project to fruition, utilizing your artistic and critical thinking skills to address social issues through the medium of film.
  • You will have the opportunity to learn and develop career skills in documentary video production, while also exploring and expressing your idealism and commitment to social change through the impactful medium of filmmaking.

Requirements

  • Youth Producers must commit to attending the program 4 times a week, Monday to Thursday, from 10 am to 5 pm, for the entire duration of the 6-week program.
  • Attendance at the final screening of the documentary film is mandatory for all Youth Producers, as it serves as a culminating event to showcase the collaborative efforts and creative achievements of the filmmaking team.
  • Participants should demonstrate a strong interest in documentary filmmaking, social issues, and storytelling, as well as a willingness to engage in a collaborative and intensive creative process to produce a high-quality documentary film within the given timeframe.
