This month, the NYCID worked with Staten Island School for Civic Leadership (SISCL) to hold its first College and Career Fair. The event brought over 400 students together with members of the community. This Fair was a part of the NYC Dept. of Education’s College Access for All Initiative, to learn about a number of colleges and career choices.

Students from the SISCL 7th grade class meet with NYCID every two weeks to better prepare them for college and beyond. The College and Career Fair was a part of this. 8th grade students prepared presentations on different colleges and acted as college representatives working to recruit the 7th graders.

Adult professionals from the community also participated in the Fair, discussing their careers and what it takes to get a job in that field. Lawyers, biologists, firefighters, police officers, and more came out to talk to the students about what they might be interested in pursuing as a career.

Thank you to all who supported us in the past and those who will help us, and Staten Island, in the future.
