Assisting Children through Transition
Parent A.C.T. Class is a program designed to educate divorcing or separating parents about the impact of their breakup on their children. The program provides parents with strategies, information and skills for reducing conflict, strengthening parent-child relationships and fostering children’s healthy development.
Parent A.C.T. is a New York State Parent Education and Awareness Program (PEAP) certified class, offered monthly by NYCID, in either one 6-hour session, or in two 3-hour sessions, and is facilitated by professionals with a background in one or more of the following areas: psychology, family therapy, social work, law and mediation. The program is highly interactive and utilizes lecture, video, skill demonstrations, discussions, role plays and small group activities. Classes are limited to 30 participants and spouses/partners are placed in separate classes. All parents receive the New York State PEAP certificate upon completion of the full 6-hour program.
